Daniel Shannon is a writer and New School student who describes himself as “an old-guard queer running on gin and disdain.”  Since 2009, when the editors of the since-folded Stockyard Magazine tricked him into writing a brief essayish thing on absinthe, Daniel has worked at what someone more obnoxious than he would call “honing his craft,” publishing several pieces about the history and semiotics of contemporary cocktail culture.  He has meanwhile pursued the study of the relationship between historical memory and gay community, and has been preparing a scholarly work on the politics of gay memory.  His other academic interests include psychoanalysis, high-modernist literature, and Platonist philosophy (especially through the Republic).
